Bhutan is one of Asia's premier birdwatching destinations, hosting over 700 recorded species — from the rare Black-necked Crane to the resplendent Himalayan Monal. Our specialist guides lead small groups through pristine forests, wetlands, and high-altitude passes to spot resident and migratory species. Every outing uses calibrated spotting scopes and pre-dawn starts to maximise sightings.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Paro — Briefing & Equipment Check
Airport pickup, scope and binocular fitting, evening bird list and route briefing over dinner.

Day 2: Paro Valley Birding
Dawn session along the Paro Chhu river for kingfishers, dippers, and wagtails. Afternoon forest walk for warblers and flycatchers.

Day 3: Chelela Pass — High-altitude Specials
Drive to Bhutan's highest motorable pass (3,988 m) for Blood Pheasant, Grandala, and Rose Finch.

Day 4: Drive to Phobjikha Valley
Afternoon arrival; evening walk to the crane roosting site. Crane information centre visit.

Day 5: Full Day — Phobjikha Wetlands
Pre-dawn stake-out for Black-necked Cranes, followed by farmland birding for raptors and larks.

Day 6: Drive to Bumthang via Thrumshingla
Slow birding drive through the National Park for Satyr Tragopan and Rufous-necked Hornbill.

Day 7: Bumthang Valley Birding & Departure Prep
Morning session along Bumthang Chhu, packing and species list compilation.

Day 8: Return to Paro — Departure
Transfer to Paro airport with a final birding stop at a meadow site en route.
